Do you have any questions?  Start here.

-Is CrossFit only for people who are already fit?

Definitely not, one very important idea to keep in mind is that you don’t have to be in shape to get in shape. CrossFit is scalable. Scaling is taking a movement and altering it to fit the needs of an individual (any individual).

For example, if “Athlete A” isn’t able to perform a pushup with their legs fully extended, they could perform the push up from their knees. On the flip side, if “Athlete B” is very efficient with pushups, weight may be added. In either case, pushups may be scaled up or down so both athletes are challenged but not asked to do something impossible.

Most CrossFitters (people who regularly work out at a CrossFit gym) were regular people who, through hard work and dedication, made themselves better than average. To simplify things, if you show up and don’t quit, you will get the results you’re after.

-What if I can’t do a pull up/push up/run 400m/etc.?

See “scaling” above. Also, please keep in mind that the above statement is about the present. Understand and realize that, in the not so distant future, there’s a very good chance that you will do things that you once thought impossible.

-Is it a cult?

Well yeah, kinda, but in a good way.

We become very close because we struggle, fail and succeed in front of one and other.  Before you know it, you’ll have a great support system which will keep you looking forward to your workouts.  We are a community and you’ll enjoy working out with us.

-Won’t lifting heavy weights make me bulky?

This is definitely one of the biggest concerns from our prospective female members. The short answer to this question is “no, CrossFit will not make you bulky.”

Lifting heavy weights produces tight, dense muscle fibers. Once the layer of fat is reduced, the muscle is revealed and the ever-so-popular “toned” look appears. Some rare people are genetically programmed to get bigger than others, but they are the exception. For the vast majority of us, it takes a lot of eating (I’m talking about an uncomfortable amount) to gain enough muscle to look bulky. Basically, we will not get “bulky” by accident.

Here at Copperhead CrossFit we encourage and congratulate our strong ladies.  We strive for improved performance and our bodies reflect that.

I don’t want to go much further into this here, but if you’re not 100% convinced, please take a look at the articles listed below.

-What kind of exercises/machines do you use?

We use many different types of equipment which all share a common theme, they work. Through much trial and error, we have found that you don’t need large, specialized machines to get in shape. Looking around our facility you’ll frequently see barbells, kettlebells, and other simple pieces of equipment being utilized.

What it boils down to is that “we don’t use machines, we make them.”

-Why does it cost so much?

Are you wondering why we charge $139 per month for our unlimited membership while most “Globo-Gyms” charge anywhere from $10-$50?   While it may seem like a “gym membership is a gym membership,” Copperhead CrossFit is different.

A typical day…

Copperhead CrossFit

-Workout alone on boring machines doing the same routines. -Workout with a qualified, enthusiastic coach performing fun, functional movements.
-Other members all have their headphones in and flex in the mirror. -Other members talk with you, laugh with you, and encourage you.
-Get minimal (if any) results.  Get frustrated.  Quit after two months. -Get real results. Get hooked.  Never look back.

Aside from the community atmosphere, we offer a different service.  Our coaches correct, encourage and congratulate each and every one of our members through every single workout.  Our group classes are much more similar to having your own personal trainer than they are to just having a membership at a Globo-Gym.

If you compare our unlimited membership to a typical group rate with a personal trainer, you’ll see the value.

3 workouts per week ($25 per workout)

UNLIMITED workouts per week

$300 per month

$139 per month

Still don’t think you can afford it?  Realize that dinner and a movie for two is easily over $50.  A night out drinking and dancing can end up costing even more.  If you skip two of these per month, you’ll be good to go.

The question you need to ask yourself is, “what else would you rather spend the money on?”  What is more important than your health and wellness?  Would you rather drink a few six packs, or have one under your shirt?  Would you rather spend money on blood pressure medication, insulin, and co-payments or your Copperhead CrossFit membership?

The bottom line is, we are not cheap but we are definitely worth it.
